AJ Schell is a turn of the century bit and spur maker who was born in Gerlach, Nevada. Earliest work is marked AJ Schell maker, Gerlach, NV. Subsequently worked in Winnemucca about the same period as GSS Co (Goldberg-Staunton Saddlery) and during the golden age of the buckaroo style. Moved to Pyramid Lake near Reno in the 1920s. Schell’s work is comparable with the best of the early ‘California style’ makers, mostly overlaid with light engraving.
